People (and Places) to Know

Places:

Zappa's Coffee

Zappa's is a huge favorite for both me and Grem! I get my coffee there as often as possible since it's right down the street from my house, and Grem always tags along because... well... they give him tons of dog treats. The beggar's managed to finagle four or five at a time from them! Everyone who works there knows us and thinks Grem is absolutely the cutest thing. I love the coffee, cookies, and people -- and Grem loves the dog-friendliness. If you're ever in our neck of the woods, I highly recommend swinging by for a cup of coffee (or tea... or Italian soda...) a cookie, and a doggie biscuit.

He always knows exactly where we're going (the chairs outside are where Zappa's "walk-thru" window is. No dogs in the store, but dogs are welcome outside!)

Taking a biscuit from one of the employees. I've given up on trying to make him sit outside -- it never works because everyone encourages him to jump up and grab the treat. Oh well.
Glass Beach

Glass Beach is a well-known place that Grem and I adore. In the early 1900's, people used to throw garbage into the sea. Most of it washed away, but a lot of the glass, after being polished by the ocean, came back to the shore! The glass you find on Glass Beach is "sea glass" polished for years and years before finally coming back to the shore. The entire beach sparkles with colors from it. Sadly, this historic place has a lot less glass than it used to because of people taking it home as a souvenir. If you visit the beach, please remember: Take only pictures, and leave nothing but footprints. It's better that way!

There are actually two sides to the beach. On the initial trail, there are two forks. The right fork leads to the beaches, while the left leads to the cliffs. Then, there are two sections of the beach. The left section is where you'll find the glass. The right side is just like any other beach, but it's very pretty!

Grem's paw resting on the pebbles and glass on the left half of the beach.

This is what you see when you take the right fork on the trail to Glass Beach! See the big tide pool right there? It's usually dry during the summer months, then it fills back up during winter and spring. :)

People:

(archived: no longer live with any of these people)
Shelley:

Shelley is my foster mother of three years and the owner of Moose, Chip, Bronson, and Daisy. She is also the one who allowed me to get Grem back a few months after entering foster care, once we figured out that he got along with everyone (which I knew he would.) She's around fifty years old, we clash on a lot of things, and I really can't wait to leave the house when it's financially possible, but I do respect her for taking on so many fosters and making sure we do have a safe place to live. I tend to rant quite a bit about her and she is not the kind of person I'd voluntarily associate with, but make no mistake that I do respect her, and I am grateful and appreciative for what she does and for allowing me to have Grem, Ghost, and my snake.

Alice:

Alice is one of my foster siblings. She's a sixteen-year-old girl usually obsessed with hair, appearance, and trucks, hunting, and other country-esque things. A walking dichotomy, I tell you. She has very little sense, and really, there's no sense in teaching her.

Izzy

Izzy is a twelve-year-old boy who lives with us. He throws tantrums, is mean for no justifiable reason, and he's yelled at Grem a few times before I went off on him about it.

Kaydee

Kaydee is a thirteen-year-old girl who also lives in the house. She's incredibly hyper and bouncy and never seems to slow down, but altogether not a bad kid. She respects my wishes with Grem and doesn't bother trying to more than pet him on occasion.

Kaylor

Kaylor is Shelley's biological son who lives out in the shed in the yard. He thinks I'm insane for putting so much effort into my dog, but doesn't ever try to mess with Grem's training. Grem adores him -- he'll gladly crawl right into Kaylor's lap and smother him with kisses.

Mike

Mike is Kaylor's dad, and someone I don't particularly like. He lives separate from us since he and Shelley are separated and have been for some time, but comes over all the time, uninvited and unnanounced. Grem is utterly terrified of him, and he will do absolutely nothing to help me fix the problem. Then he acts like I'm a horrid person for calling Grem away from him. I don't want my dog subjected to that, and I'm terrified that at the smallest thing, he'd go off on Grem and hit him.
